For example, through its investments in one of the two Imperial College London Diabetes Centre facilities in the UAE, Mubadala has helped ensure the treatment of one million patients. In addition to delivering essential healthcare services in Abu Dhabi, Mubadala acts as a catalyst for the wider development of the healthcare sector in the emirate and provides training and employment opportunities to aspiring Emirati healthcare professionals.

Mubadala aims to be at the forefront of scientific innovation. Working with researchers at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and professionals from 3D modelling software company Strata, in 2016 Mubadala developed a ground-breaking prototype that uses advanced thermal imaging to detect stresses, fractures and cavities on and inside aerospace structures. The innovation can detect a variety of defects within a few seconds, providing real-time data and images that allow for further inspection of the structure.

Mubadala also has interests in oil and gas, semiconductors, information and communications technologies, utilities, capital investments, real estate and infrastructure, with investments in Piaggio Aerospace, SR Technics, Strata, GlobalFoundries, Tatweer Petroleum, Dolphin Energy, The Carlyle Group, and Aldar.

The group’s merger with International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) brings to the table its own investments in over 18 leading companies across the hydrocarbon value chain. In addition, IPIC’s capital investment arm, Aabar Investments, has a wide portfolio that includes the automotive, banking, construction, aviation and sports industries.
