American university of Sharjah

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah, founded the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in 1997 to create a leading educational institution in the Gulf region.

In its 21 years of existence, AUS has certainly achieved His Highness’ ambition. Currently, it is one of four universities in the Middle East and North Africa to be accredited by the USA-based Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Locally, it is accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Affairs Division.

Following the American higher education model, AUS offers 26 majors and 48 minors at undergraduate level, 14 master’s degree programmes and one PhD programme through the College of Arts and Sciences; the College of Engineering; the College of Architecture, Art and Design; and the School of Business Administration.

AUS’ 274 full-time faculty members educate over 6,000 students from more than 95 countries. The university prides itself on the quality of its graduates as its alumni continue to make their mark across the entrepreneurship, arts, and public and private sectors.

The university continuously seeks to expand its academic offering and research credentials while partnering with the wider community to enhance the economic, social and cultural capital of the region.

In 2018, to further establish itself as a prime research institution in the region, AUS launched its first doctoral programme, a PhD in engineering systems management. As the UAE moves towards becoming a knowledge-based economy, AUS is committed to playing its part in helping the nation achieve that goal.
