Expo 2020

Expo 2020

If ever there was a moment that truly united the people of Dubai, it came in Paris at 8pm on November 27, 2013. This was when Dubai was awarded the rights to stage Expo 2020, a coveted achievement that instantly put the emirate on the global stage yet again. Dubai won its bid to host the 2020 event by a landslide, receiving 116 of 165 votes. The happy news was followed by a day of fireworks and regionwide celebrations as the country cheered in unison.

Dating back to 1851, the universal exposition has become a platform for countries to showcase progress and innovation, as well as to present solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. Themed ‘Connecting Minds, Creating The Future’, Expo 2020 aims to catalyse global collaboration for greater opportunities, mobility and sustainability. With more than 132 participating countries, it is expected to attract in excess of 25 million visitors in its first six months.

The main event site will occupy 438 hectares and will be centred around a plaza, Al Wasl, which will be enclosed by three large pavilions. Having already generated multiple employment opportunities, Expo 2020’s impact has been tangible. Currently the talk of the town, by 2020 it will be the talk of the world.
