Etisalat

In 2012, Etisalat was named the most powerful company in the UAE by Forbes Middle East. As it leads the local market with a value estimated at AED152 billion ($41.4 billion), it is not hard to imagine why. Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Etisalat was established in 1982 as the very first telecommunications company in the region. Today, it operates in 18 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa and has a service portfolio that includes mobile networks, internet services and television packages, with over 167 million aggregate subscribers.

Since inception, Etisalat has been at the forefront of innovation in the realm of communications in the Middle East. In 1982, the brand launched the first mobile communications network in the region. Six years later, it rolled out internet services for the first time in the region and four years later, Etisalat was responsible for the first broadband internet service.

Continuously driving technological innovation in the region, Etisalat launched the first 3G network for increased internet speed and connectivity in 2003. Five years later, it introduced fibre optics to the region, and in 2011, it offered 4G LTE services to its consumer base.

A member of the United Nations Global Compact, the company has revolutionised the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the region by introducing such trends as cause-based CSR and leading initiatives in the fields of empowerment of people with special needs, humanitarian aid and sustainable development.

Etisalat’s pioneering initiatives and seamless service have been recognised through numerous awards, with the company being a four-time winner at GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards.
